My Experiment: It’s Science!
The following post on Medium is an experiment. An experiment in getting my messages out, an experiment in becoming a “YouTuber,” a content creator for real, using all the platforms available to our friends, relatives, and yes, to our children. Please follow me down this scientific analysis of the situation (this will be a deep rabbit hole, when all told).
First, for my very long story that follows in many small parts, I want you to hear me, see me, and also read my typed-out words. Will you? Please try, and let me know if you cannot tolerate this rather odd format.
Second, my spoken word:
Welcome back! That’s what I sound like, and not what Medium wants you to hear (i.e. using some AI voice-generated voice). I detest that my words are heard in a generated way, in some digital representation of “me” and in some frequency and cadence that I do not control. I find that abhorrent. Don’t you?
Lastly, this submission is an experiment in becoming a YouTuber, and an experiment on the limitations and possibilities of Medium.com and all the other platforms that tubers and content sharers use. It’s also an experiment on communicating the way I have for over 50 years now; with my spoken word, my images, and my printed word delivered just the way I want them.
So, this is how I wish to proceed: I want you to hear my real voice, not whatever is in the upper right (geez Medium, you could have asked first) and I want you to be able to really understand what I have to say, in addition to giving you all this pretty eye-candy (typography).
Of course, if one reader or more can convince me otherwise and convince me that this is all foolishness, I will re-consider returning you to your normal viewing mode…reading just characters without you knowing my truest inner feelings or meta-expressions that are communicated when we are face to face in real life (vs. this metaverse). It’s your choice. Let me know in the comments below…
